Chicken Beak Stew...BOO!

Welcome to a haunted Three Pixie Lane.
Great Uncle Ed and Aunt Lou will greet you at the door.
How about a lollipop from an old suppository mold?

Or maybe some tonic for your headache?
Or maybe a French Elixir to wash down your stew?
Here is my secret recipe for Chicken Beak Stew.  It will cure any ailment.
A little mortar and pestle grinds up the eyes of newts for our stew.
An old microscope views the pumpkin teeth to see if they are rotten.
A few old books hold many prescriptions, potions, and recipes.
And a scale weighs some poisonous 'butter bars' given by a neighbor for feeding her black cat.
Since the recipe is old and warn, I will share my secret with you...

Chicken Beak Stew
Eye of newt,
Skin of frog,
Scales of snake,
Hair of dog...
Spider's legs and lizard's lips,
Warts of toad and hornet's hips,
Turnip greens and chicken beaks,
A cup of bees,
A pound of leeks,
Claw of vulture,
Fur of bat,
Tail of lizard,
Meow of cat,
Smell of wet dog and a cup of fat
Stir it all together and let it all brew; on Halloween night you'll have Chicken Beak Stew!
EEUUWW!!

I have had the old medicine bottles for years.  The mortar and pestle and the suppository mold are from college.  The antique microscope found at a flea market was a steal at only $25.  My husband stares through one of these all day.  I guess anyone else would have passed it by!  Another great bargain, I purchased the old scale for $12. The 'Trick or Trick' sign is from Homegoods.  All labels are from the awesome Graphics Fairy. I caused a few explosions in lab when I was in college, so I burned the edges of the labels and the recipe to mimic real ones!  I saw the French Script books at Decor Chick.  Check out her site for the 'how-to.'  I used some books that I had already read.  The poem is from Alphabet Soup.  I cut the 'teeth' and 'mask' for the photos from a magazine page and taped them to the front of the glass.  (I mean no disrespect!)

Thank you so much for the feature!

Also, thank you to Brooke at the Craft Cave for the feature!  I consider myself a 'craft wannabe,' so this is an honor!

  1. Christie! That is seriously cute! Uhhhh...I mean Terrifying! :-) I love it and it all looks so fun and not overwhelmingly scary like some other stuff out there. My kids can't even go to the craft stores this time of year without freaking out! My scientist son would especially like this!

  34. I must have exclaimed too loudly about the Chicken Beak Stew because my hens started flapping wildly before they hid in the coop. Then my dog took refuge in her crate when I read about the smell of wet dog--she's convinced a bath is in her near future. Good thing I don't have any pet newts, lizards or frogs! Have a spooky week:)
