This time of year calls for bon fires...
Can you think of anything more fun than sitting outside with a slight chill in the air and eating s'mores?
What is it about roasting a marshmallow on a stick?
Remember these? Jiffy Pop popcorn seems to transport me back in time. To pop the kernels over an open fire wear a long oven mitt from the kitchen, because the handle is short!
Our secret to the perfect s'mores? Nutella...a little bit of heaven in a jar. Some like a Hershey's bar, but we favor the milk chocolate hazelnut spread.
I found the Jiffy Pop at Wal-Mart.
Perfection! Doesn't this just make your mouth water?!
Friday night is family night around here. Sometimes we go out, but our most favorite treat is making a bonfire and eating some yum s'mores and popcorn. It is quiet outside and the only thing flickering at me is the fire...no phone, no TV, no computer.
Rob and I are struggling to cut out some things that have made us way too busy. As we approach the holidays, it takes some serious planning to make 'all is calm, all is bright' around here! I'll share some ways that we have found to simplify during the holidays with you soon!
I will continue my 'Life Lessons' on Sunday starting this week. Stop back by and see what we are learning about 'gift giving' for this Christmas!
Funny, we do the same thing when the weather cools down. We don't have a fancy fire pit or outdoor fireplace (like I wish we did), but we have the same amount of fun sitting around a fire made in our back woods just off our yard and we bring the patio chairs out and roast marshmellows. Our dog joins us too! I love campfires. I am the only female in my household, so you can well imagine that I would be out voted if I said no. Ha! your pics look wonderful and it's so great that you're taking the time out to spend with your family away from all the electronic gizmo's.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, I am drooooling right now.... I want some s'mores!!!!! Thanks for the tip about the nutella - I love that stuff and never thought to try it on s'mores. OK, seriously, this is ridiculous - I keep scrolling back up to look at the s'mores. I think I may need a support group after this!!!

ReplyDeleteChristie, this post makes me want to go make a s'mores right now! My hubby and I went camping last weekend and I had my fill, but man are they good! I like the nutella tip too..thanks! And, as usual, your post is not only creative but inspiring too...looking forward to hearing your heart on Christmas gifting and all the busy-ness.

Oh my the Jiffy Popcorn really takes me back..Moving it back and forth over the burner on the electric stove we had growing up..Looks like everyone had a blast..Loved the post..
ReplyDeleteI've never thought of using Nutella on Smores, but that would be cool. You create the best memories for your kids! Was skipping around Etsy tonight, and say this, and it made me think of you (you know the horse thing)...
